REHABILITATED BIRDS

Buzzard

Picture
This is a wild buzzard to came into care of one of our members until he could be returned to the wild. You can see in this photo his right wing has sufferd heavy damage to his primary feathers which are essential for soaring.

PEREGRINE FALCON

Picture
Here is a wild peregrine that was handed to one of our members when it was found sick and unable to fend for itself. This Peregrine was covered in mud and had a badly damaged wing when found, having apparantly struck either an overhead cable or a barbed wire fence. Peregrines are native to Ireland and are adapting well to city life as the high rise buildings provide a similiar nesting site to their traditional cliff site nests. Feral Pigeons would be there main source of food in cities. Peregrines have had some persecution in recent years. It is suspected pigeon fanciers and game keepers have purposely sought to decimate the population.

KESTREL

Picture
This is how this little Kestrel was found
This little fella was found unable to fend for himself, fly or hunt and would have perished if he had not been rescued by one of our club members. Great care was taken to ensure the bird didn't become dependant on his rescuer and once he was deemed fit to hunt for himself he was released back to the location he was found. The video below shows how well he flew when released.
